The iO Dock (patent pending) is the first device that enables anyone with an iPad to create, produce, and perform music with virtually any pro audio gear or instruments. The iO Dock is a universal docking station specifically designed for the iPad, and it gives musicians, recording engineers, and music producers the connectivity they need to create and perform with iPad. The iO Dock provides microphone and instrument users with two combination XLR and 1/4-inch inputs, each with its own gain control and switchable phantom power for condenser microphones. Guitarists and bassists will appreciate the iO Dock’s guitar-direct switch, enabling them to play, perform and record right into amplifier- and effects-modeling apps. Bands can connect outputs from their mixer and easily record their performances and rehearsals or use the iO Dock as a metronome or loop-playback device. Producers can use the iO Dock’s MIDI jacks to sequence external keyboards, samplers, drum machines and synthesizers, or perform using the iO Dock as the sound module and their favorite MIDI-compliant keyboard, drum pad or other controller. An assignable 1/4-inch footswitch input enables remote control of any app-defined function such as stop/start or record. Users can also connect the iO Dock to their Mac or PC using the USB port to send MIDI back and forth for creative, new applications of the iPad and computer used in tandem. Users can connect the iO Dock’s stereo pair of 1/4-inch main outputs to studio monitors for critical listening, or to PA systems for use in performance settings. They can monitor on headphones, and independently control the levels of the two outputs, each on its own knob. Recording musicians will appreciate the iO Dock’s direct-monitor switch, which enables them to toggle between the incoming and playback signal on their headphones. I've had the same 2 swx-1043D's in 3 different cars they have been in 3 different boxes and no matter what they always make your hair move in the cabin. I currently have them powered by a 3600 watt boss mono block class d amplifier with a 2 farad cap. These will be the best subs that you can buy for the money, by far.
In the last 2 months, my 3-year old 24" iMac started developing some minor problems (the computer never stopped working, but it had some display issues, some failed sensors, and some fan problems.) The Apple tech that looked at my iMac ran a 15 hour diagnostic test and determined that the logic board, the display, AND the graphics card should all be replaced in order to ensure reliability, but recommended that instead of getting it repaired (which would have been fully covered by the warranty) that I try to seek an "advanced replacement" computer from Apple. I called Customer Relations at AppleCare, and 2 days later (with only 5 days left on the 3 year warranty) Apple decided that instead of repairing my 3 year old 24" iMac, they were going to replace it with a brand new 27" iMac, at no cost to me!!! I just got my new computer 2 days ago! It is AWESOME! Try getting that kind of warranty service from Dell!
The best part is that the new computer they sent me comes with a brand new warranty, just like a newly purchased iMac would! (It comes with 1 year, but I can upgrade the warranty to 3 years by buying this item from Amazon) It really paid off to have the 3-year warranty on my last computer, so you can bet I will be buying the 3-year warranty again on this new one they sent me!
People need to be aware that the reviews you see for the iPad often reflect the old Mac/PC platform wars with some people making comments who simply don't like iPads from a distance, without actually owning one, because they see it as part of the deplorable Apple mania they find so distasteful. They're entitled to their opinion, of course, but it is unfortunate they skew the evaluation of this product without the deep acquaintance one needs in order to give it an insightful evaluation.
I have taught computer science at the college level for 26 years and have had computers with all kinds of operating systems. I don't own Apple stock and have never known anyone who works at Apple. I therefore have no connection to Apple.
I have had my iPad for about a month and read a fair number of reviews before I purchased, spent some time using one at the store, and thought about what I might use one for, in contrast to my laptop with which I am well satisfied. People too often think of computers in terms of hardware, the specs and looks, instead of the software and the functionality. You should ask yourself, "What will I use this for that solves a problem I would like to have solved?" Software is always more important than hardware, even though it is the hardware that makes an impression..
